Among 39 patients with idiopathic late-onset immunoglobulin deficiency (LID) seen at the Mayo Clinic in the past 10 years, 3 had a concomitant carcinomatous gastric lesion (incidence, 7.7%). Two other cases of idiopathic LID and gastric carcinoma have been reported in the literature. The relationships among idiopathic LID, atrophic gastritis, pernicious anemia, malabsorption, and carcinoma of the stomach are discussed. Of special interest is that one of our patients developed myxedema because of primary thyroid failure.
