Chronic arteriosclerosis is linked to ~37% greater ADP-induced platelet aggregation versus healthy controls.

Is platelet aggregation enhanced in patients with arteriosclerotic diseases compared to healthy controls?
Platelet aggregation is significantly enhanced in patients with stable ischemic heart disease and cerebral thrombosis, correlating with disease severity and specific lipid and coagulation profiles.
May aid risk stratification in stable arteriosclerosis; leaves open causal role and therapeutic implications.

Yuzo Nagakawa (1980) conducted a case-control in Arteriosclerosis (Ischemic heart disease and cerebral infarction) (n=221). Arteriosclerosis vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on Maximum optical density (Max. O.D.) in ADP-induced platelet aggregation (p=<0.001). Patients with chronic arteriosclerosis exhibited significantly enhanced platelet aggregation compared to healthy controls, with ADP-induced maximum optical density at 67.0% versus 48.9% (p<0.001).
