Sex differences in rat pituitary GH responsiveness warrant no clinical action; leaves open gonadal steroid modulation of human GH secretion.
p-value: p=<0.0001
In vitro growth hormone release from rat anterior pituitary cells is significantly modulated by gender and the gonadal hormone environment, with intact males showing the greatest response to hGRF-40.
Evans et al. (1985) studied this question. Gonadal hormone environment (gender, castration, testosterone, or estradiol) vs. Intact male rats was evaluated on Basal and hGRF-40-stimulated growth hormone (GH) release (p=<0.0001). Overall hGRF-40-stimulated GH release was significantly greater in cells from intact male rats compared to castrate male rats (P<0.0001) or diestrus day 2 female rats (P=0.0001).
