This case report describes a fatal instance of unexplained progressive cardiac enlargement and congestive heart failure in a young man.
France et al. (1956) studied this question. Cardiac enlargement of unknown cause resulted in fatal congestive heart failure in a 22-year-old man 18 months after symptom onset, with autopsy showing only hypertrophy and dilatation.
