Right atrial cardiomyoplasty increases stroke volume and peak conduit flow in experimental valved Fontan models.

Does right atrial cardiomyoplasty improve pulmonary flow in an experimental model of a Fontan circulation?
p-value: p=<0.001
Right atrial cardiomyoplasty using the latissimus dorsi can improve pulmonary flow in an experimental Fontan model, but only when a valve is implanted in the inferior vena cava to prevent backflow.

Augments experimental Fontan flow with IVC valve; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
B. Voss (2002) studied Experimental model of a Fontan circulation (n=19). Right atrial cardiomyoplasty with latissimus dorsi stimulation vs. Baseline (without stimulation) and no IVC valve was evaluated on Haemodynamic parameters including right atrial pressure, pulmonary atrial pressure, stroke volume, and peak conduit-flow (p=<0.001). Right atrial cardiomyoplasty using latissimus dorsi stimulation in an experimental Fontan model significantly increased stroke volume and peak conduit-flow (P<0.001) when an IVC valve was implanted.
