App-based HRV via chest transmitters correlates strongly with ECG in time but less in frequency domains.
Why the study?
Although the gold standard for HRV registration is the ECG, several mobile applications have been developed, and their evaluation must be proven compatible with ECG standards.
Does HRV measurement using an APP with chest heart rate transmitters correlate with standard ECG in healthy individuals?
Cross-Sectional (n=56)
Does HRV measurement using an APP with chest heart rate transmitters correlate with standard ECG in healthy individuals?
Effect estimate: Pearson r=0.99
p-value: p=<0.0001
While mobile apps with chest transmitters provide accurate time-domain HRV measurements compared to ECG, frequency-domain parameters show lower correlation and require careful evaluation.

Supports time-domain HRV via app in healthy adults; leaves open frequency-domain validation before wider use.
A 2022 study conducted a cross-sectional in Healthy individuals (n=56). APP with chest heart rate transmitters vs. Electrocardiogram (ECG) was evaluated on Correlation of signal recordings between the two acquisition systems (Pearson r=0.99, p=<0.0001). HRV analysis using an APP with chest transmitters correlated highly with ECG in the time domain (Spearman r=0.99; P<0.0001) but less so in the frequency domain (Pearson r=0.85; P<0.0001).
