Should not alter baroreflex assessment; hypothesis-generating for sympathetic Mayer wave resonance in aniridia.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report suggests that Mayer waves could be a sympathetic mediated cardiovascular resonance due to a defective BP buffer mechanism, with a presumed lesion in the rostral aspect of the dorsal medulla oblongata.
Julu et al. (1997) conducted a case report in Familial aniridia with symptomatic failure of baroreceptor blood pressure buffering mechanism (n=1). Familial aniridia was evaluated on Blood pressure buffering mechanism and autonomic function. A woman with familial aniridia exhibited a selective defect in baroreflex blood pressure buffering with intact cardioinhibition, suggesting Mayer waves could be a sympathetic mediated cardiovascular resonance.
