Inverse takotsubo may occur with subarachnoid hemorrhage shock; single case leaves open echocardiographic screening utility.
Case Report (n=1)
This case highlights that an 'inverse' takotsubo pattern (preserved apical contractility and basal hypokinesis) can occur in stress cardiomyopathy following acute subarachnoid hemorrhage and is reversible with supportive care.
Waller et al. (2013) conducted a case report in Acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and stress cardiomyopathy (n=1). Acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage was evaluated on Left ventricular ejection fraction and regional wall motion abnormality. A 46-year-old female with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage developed cardiogenic shock and an inverse takotsubo pattern on echocardiography, which resolved with aggressive support by day 6.
