Key result
Pediatric BITA CABG yields patent grafts and no subsequent coronary events in Kawasaki disease cases.
Why the study?
Few studies have reported the outcomes and technical considerations of paediatric coronary artery bypass surgery using bilateral internal thoracic arteries in small children with multivessel disease.
Does bilateral internal thoracic artery grafting provide favorable coronary outcomes in children under 5 years of age with Kawasaki disease and multivessel disease?
Population
Three children under 5 years of age with Kawasaki disease and multivessel disease

Supports feasibility of bilateral ITA grafting in select young Kawasaki cases; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation before practice change.
Case Report (n=3)
Does bilateral internal thoracic artery grafting provide favorable coronary outcomes in children under 5 years of age with Kawasaki disease and multivessel disease?
Bilateral internal thoracic artery grafting is feasible and provides favorable early coronary outcomes in children under 5 years of age with multivessel disease due to Kawasaki disease.
Shimahara et al. (2020) conducted a case report in Kawasaki disease with bilateral giant coronary aneurysms (n=3). Paediatric coronary artery bypass surgery utilizing bilateral internal thoracic arteries was evaluated on Post-operative coronary angiography findings and subsequent coronary events. Paediatric coronary artery bypass surgery using bilateral internal thoracic arteries resulted in patent grafts and no subsequent coronary events in three children under 5 years of age with Kawasaki disease.
