The reaction of [(dichlorophosphino)methyl]tris(dimethylamino)phosphonium tetraphenylborate 5 with an excess of 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) yields the new phosphonio-substituted phosphaalkyne, [(Me2N)3P–CP)+BPh4–6, which is trapped by secondary amines, phenols and mesityl azide.
