Nutritional care is a fundamental aspect of nursing influencing patients’ health outcomes. Recognised as a human right and a basic need, nutritional care underscores the importance of integrating it into nursing education programmes. Nurse educators shape students’ professional development through teaching methods integrating theory and practice, as well as curriculum development and clinical placements; however, studies exploring this are limited. This study aimed to explore educators’ experiences and perspectives on nursing students learning about nutritional care during a bachelor's programme. Three focus group interviews including nurse educators were performed. The main themes were ‘facilitating students learning about nutritional care’, ’enhancing professional development’ and ‘fostering ethical competence’. The study identified reflection sessions and practice-based cases supporting learning beyond nutritional care as findings. It recognised the need to identify ethical dilemmas and to integrate nutritional care across all programme years. Exploring students’ perspectives may have future implications for teaching, curriculum and practice.
