Does corticotropin or cortisone reduce seizure frequency in patients with infantile spasms and hypsarhythmia?
Corticotropin and/or cortisone therapy may reduce seizure frequency and improve EEG findings in patients with infantile spasms, particularly in younger infants.
J Gordon Millichap (1962) conducted an observational in infantile spasms and hypsarhythmia (n=21). corticotropin (ACTH) or cortisone or both was evaluated on reduction in frequency of seizures. Corticotropin or cortisone treatment reduced seizure frequency in 11 of 21 patients with infantile spasms and hypsarhythmia, with better responses seen in infants under 1 year of age.
