Key result
AF in IDCM is linked to ~63% higher CRP levels versus controls.
Why the study?
Are plasma CRP levels associated with atrial fibrillation in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy?
Population
522 patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, comprising 242 with atrial fibrillation and 280 controls.

Case-Control (n=522)
Are plasma CRP levels associated with atrial fibrillation in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy?
Absolute Event Rate: 4.59% vs 2.81%
p-value: p=<0.001
Elevated plasma CRP levels are associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, suggesting an inflammatory component.
Dai et al. (2009) conducted a case-control in Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy (n=522). Atrial fibrillation vs. No atrial fibrillation was evaluated on Plasma C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (p=<0.001). Atrial fibrillation in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy was associated with significantly higher median plasma CRP levels compared to controls (4.59 vs 2.81 mg/L; p<0.001).
