Key result
A ≥0.5 MET improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness is linked to lower mortality regardless of multimorbidity.
Why the study?
The study was conducted to characterize the impact of multimorbidity and cardiorespiratory fitness on mortality in patients completing cardiac rehabilitation.
Cohort (n=8,320)
p-value: p=<.001

Maintaining post-CR CRF gains may lower mortality regardless of multimorbidity; supports prospective trials before changing practice.
Ozemek et al. (2022) conducted a cohort in Cardiovascular disease (n=8,320). Improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness (≥0.5 METs) vs. No improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness was evaluated on Mortality (p=<.001). Improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness by ≥0.5 METs from baseline to 1-year follow-up were associated with lower mortality rates regardless of multimorbidity status (P<.001).
