Periostin-modified ADSCs show promise in murine ischemia models; leaves open clinical translation to peripheral artery disease.
Does transplantation of periostin-transfected adipose-derived stem cells improve perfusion and angiogenesis in Apo E deficient mice with hind limb ischemia?
p-value: p=<0.05
Overexpression of periostin in adipose-derived stem cells enhances their survival, migration, and therapeutic efficacy in a mouse model of hind limb ischemia.
Qin et al. (2015) studied Hind limb ischemia (n=24). Periostin-transfected adipose-derived stem cells (P-ADSCs) vs. Untransfected ADSCs, DMEM (control), or sham was evaluated on Laser Doppler perfusion index and microvessel density (p=<0.05). Transplantation of periostin-overexpressing adipose-derived stem cells significantly improved blood perfusion and microvessel density in mice with hind limb ischemia compared to untransfected cells.
