Tranexamic acid improves DIC parameters in two patients with aortic dissection or aneurysm.
Why the study?
Tranexamic acid has generally been contraindicated in DIC, but occasional reports suggest efficacy in non-infectious chronic DIC.
Does tranexamic acid improve outcomes in patients with DIC complicated by aortic dissection or aortic aneurysm?
Case Report (n=2)
No
Does tranexamic acid improve outcomes in patients with DIC complicated by aortic dissection or aortic aneurysm?
Tranexamic acid may be effective for managing DIC complicated by aortic dissection or aortic aneurysm, despite being generally contraindicated for DIC.
May support tranexamic acid evaluation in DIC with aortic disease despite contraindication; case reports leave open efficacy, safety, and practice change.

Kikusaki et al. (2020) conducted a case report in Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) complicated with aortic dissection or aortic aneurysm (n=2). Tranexamic acid was evaluated on Improvement in DIC parameters (platelet count, FDP, D-Dimer). Tranexamic acid successfully improved platelet counts and decreased FDP and D-Dimer levels in two patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation complicated by aortic dissection or aortic aneurysm.
