CHOP plus radiation linked to ~44% higher 5-year relapse-free survival versus radiation alone in lymphoma.
Why the study?
Does combined CHOP chemotherapy and radiation therapy improve relapse-free survival compared to radiation therapy alone in patients with stage IA non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the Waldeyer's ring?

May support combined CHOP-RT in stage IA NHL; hypothesis-generating and requires randomized confirmation.
Uematsu et al. (1993) conducted a cohort in Stage IA non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the Waldeyer's ring (n=17). Combined modality (CHOP chemotherapy and radiation therapy) vs. Radiation therapy 40 to 60 Gy alone was evaluated on 5-year relapse-free survival (p=0.04). Combined modality with CHOP and radiation therapy improved 5-year relapse-free survival compared to radiation therapy alone (100% vs 56%, p=0.04) in stage IA non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
