ADP stimulation induces surface fibrinogen expression on rabbit platelets but not on human platelets.
The study demonstrates a species difference in platelet biology, showing that ADP-stimulated rabbit platelets express secreted fibrinogen on their surface, unlike human platelets.

Rabbit models exhibit ADP-induced platelet fibrinogen expression absent in humans; leaves open translational validity of rabbit thrombosis studies.
Harfenist et al. (1988) studied Platelet aggregation. ADP stimulation vs. Human vs Rabbit platelets was evaluated on Binding of 125I-F(ab')2 fragments of anti-fibrinogen antibodies to formaldehyde-fixed platelets. Fibrinogen was expressed on the surface of rabbit platelets after stimulation with ADP, whereas no fibrinogen was detected on human platelets either before or after ADP treatment.
