Key result
Increasing enflurane prolongs AV nodal conduction and depresses conductivity without altering His-Purkinje or ventricular times.
Why the study?
Alterations in conduction during anesthesia may cause arrhythmias, and the effects of enflurane on AV nodal and conduction times in dogs were not well characterized.
Population
Dogs with spontaneously beating hearts and during atrial pacing
Comparison
Effects of increasing enflurane concentrations from 1.0 to 2.0 MAC on conduction times
Design
Electrophysiological study using His-bundle electrocardiography

May warrant AV nodal monitoring with high-dose enflurane; leaves open clinical arrhythmia relevance in humans.
Atlee et al. (1977) studied this question. Enflurane was evaluated on Atrioventricular (AV) nodal, His-Purkinje, and ventricular conduction times. Increasing concentrations of enflurane from 1.0 to 2.0 MAC prolonged AV nodal conduction times and depressed AV nodal conductivity, but did not affect His-Purkinje or ventricular conduction times.
