Electrochemical promotion of dispersed RuO 2 catalyst on yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ) monolith was studied in a monolithic catalytic reactor fabricated from YSZ solid electrolyte. This new design has shown an important increase in ethylene conversion to CO 2 by potential application between two inert gold electrodes. The effects of the cell potential, the ethylene partial pressure, the total gas flux, and the temperature were studied. In a typical example, an increase of the ethylene conversion from 36 to 50.5 % ( p C 2 H 4 = 0.2 kPa ) was observed by applying a cell potential of 30 V at 360 ° C .
