Key result
Ultimaster bioabsorbable polymer SES linked to a ~10% 3-year MACE rate in ACS patients.
Why the study?
Long-term efficacy and safety data for the Ultimaster bioabsorbable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent in patients with acute coronary syndrome remained limited.
Observational (n=923)
Yes
The bioabsorbable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stent demonstrated acceptable long-term safety and efficacy in ACS patients, with a 10.2% MACE rate and 0.5% stent thrombosis rate at 3 years.
Supports ACS-specific use of bioabsorbable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stents; extends general-population data but leaves open need for randomized confirmation.
Background: The Ultimaster™ stent (Terumo Corporation), a bioabsorbable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent, has shown promising outcomes across various patient populations; however, long-term efficacy and safety data in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remain limited. This study evaluated 3-year clinical outcomes in patients with ACS who underwent implantation of the Ultimaster™ stent, addressing the existing gap in real-world information regarding the applicability and effectiveness of this stent platform. Methods: This multicenter, prospective, observational study was conducted at 13 high-volume cardiovascular centers in South Korea.Data from 923 patients with ACS who received the Ultimaster™ stent were analyzed. The primary outcomes were major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (NFMI), and target-vessel revascularization (TVR), evaluated over a 36-month clinical follow-up period. Results: After a median follow-up duration of 1,095 days, the cumulative incidence rates were 10.2% for MACE, 2.3% for all-cause death, 3.4% for NFMI, and 7.4% for TVR.Stent thrombosis occurred in 0.5% of patients.

Oh et al. (2025) conducted an observational in Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) (n=923). Ultimaster™ stent was evaluated on Major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (NFMI), and target-vessel revascularization (TVR). Implantation of the Ultimaster bioabsorbable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent in patients with acute coronary syndrome was associated with a 3-year cumulative MACE incidence of 10.2%.
