(1- x )(Na 1/2 Bi 1/2 )TiO 3 – x BaTiO 3 ( x =0.06) with 0–5 at.% lanthanum was prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The effect of La 3+ doping on dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the ceramics was studied. The ceramics' relaxor behavior is more distinct after La 3+ doping. At room temperature, the dielectric constant is increased. When the La content is less than 1.5 at.%, the piezoelectric properties are enhanced. Meanwhile the dielectric loss of the ceramics is also increased. When the content of La 3+ is higher than 1.5 at.%, the ceramics' piezoelectric properties are considerably degraded.
