Key result
FAdV-8b infection linked to ~17% mortality in a broiler flock inclusion body hepatitis outbreak.
Why the study?
The increased number of IBH cases, virulence of isolate strains, and lack of cross-species protection highlight the need for detailed in-field data to develop control strategies.
Population
64,000 broiler chickens in a commercial farm in Macedonia, Greece
Comparison
Flock A with higher mortality vs Flocks B and C with lower mortality
Design
Case report with clinicopathological and molecular investigation

Alerts to atypical IBH in commercial poultry; leaves open strain-specific vaccine needs.

Absolute Event Rate: 17.4% vs 2.9%
This is the first report of the detection and identification of FAdV-8b associated with Inclusion Body Hepatitis in commercial broiler flocks in Greece.
Tsiouris et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Inclusion Body Hepatitis (IBH) (n=64,000). FAdV-8b infection vs. Less affected flocks was evaluated on Cumulative mortality. FAdV-8b infection caused an outbreak of Inclusion Body Hepatitis in a commercial broiler farm, resulting in up to 17.4% cumulative mortality in the most severely affected flock.
