Key result
TAVR is linked to fewer angiopoietin homeostasis alterations than SAVR, avoiding significant Ang-2 increases.
Why the study?
Changes in plasma angiopoietin levels after TAVR and SAVR and their comparative profiles were not well described.
Does TAVR compared to SAVR result in different changes in plasma angiopoietin levels in adult patients with aortic stenosis?
Cohort (n=60)
No
Does TAVR compared to SAVR result in different changes in plasma angiopoietin levels in adult patients with aortic stenosis?
SAVR induces greater alterations in angiopoietin homeostasis than TAVR, suggesting a role of cardiopulmonary bypass in endothelial permeability changes.
SAVR linked to greater Angiopoietin disruption than TAVR; supports CPB role but leaves open clinical relevance of endothelial changes.

Abou‐Arab et al. (2021) conducted a cohort in Aortic stenosis (n=60). Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) vs. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) was evaluated on Changes in Ang-1 and Ang-2 levels. SAVR induced greater alterations in angiopoietin homeostasis than TAVR, with Ang-2 increasing significantly after SAVR (P<0.0001) but not TAVR (P=0.066).
