The purpose of this paper is to give a clear explanation to the “lost activity” of highly dispersed platinum catalysts caused by the so-called crystallite size effect and to demonstrate the complete recovery of the lost activity by using a series of high surface area carbon black supports, i.e. even at platinum crystallite size of 1.4 nm.
