A new visual trap capturing Rhagoletis cerasi (L.) and other fruit flies. The response of Rhagoletis cerasi (L.) to different colours, forms and trap‐sizes is described. Best attraction was achieved with a sticky‐coated trap painted with fluorescent yellow. Based on these results, a new disposable trap (PROKOBOL II) was developed. This visual trap has increased the attractiveness for the flies about 100 times compared with the traditional bait traps (4 % NH4HCO3). The trap can be used for forecasting and control purposes and ecological studies on Rhagoletis cerasi and other fruit‐fly populations (Rhagoletis spp., Dacus oleae, Ceratitis capitata).
