An alphabetical list of species of the subgenus Albuca (19 species including 10 new ones)including the important synonyms is presented, and note on the distribution as well as diagnoses for the new species are given. This subgenus is endemic to Southern Africa (Cape Province, radiating into Namibia with five species and into Transkei with one species). In the most recent “List of Species of Southern African Plants” (GIBBS RUSSEL et al. 1985) 54 species of Albuca are recognized, to which three new species by HILLIARD & BURTT (1985) are to be added. Of these 57 Albuca names thirteen names concern subgenus Albuca of which six represent synonyms according to the present paper, leaving seven legitimate names = about 50% of the names concerned in the GIBBS RUSSEL list or = 37% of the species recognized by the present paper.
