Key result
Rest-redistribution 201-Thallium SPECT showing >3 severe irreversible defects strongly predicts cardiac death or AMI.
Why the study?
The prognostic role of rest-redistribution 201-Thallium imaging in patients with ischemic mild-to-moderate left ventricular dysfunction has not been extensively investigated.

Does rest-redistribution 201-Thallium SPECT predict cardiac death and acute myocardial infarction in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction?
p-value: p=<0.0001
Rest-redistribution 201-Thallium SPECT provides significant prognostic information, with the number of severe irreversible defects predicting cardiac death and myocardial infarction in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction.
Filardi et al. (2009) conducted a cohort in ischemic mild-to-moderate left ventricular dysfunction (n=126). More than three severe irreversible defects on rest-redistribution 201-Thallium SPECT vs. Three or fewer severe irreversible defects was evaluated on Event-free survival from cardiac death or acute myocardial infarction (p=<0.0001). The presence of more than three severe irreversible defects on rest-redistribution 201-Thallium SPECT strongly predicted cardiac death or acute myocardial infarction (log rank 19.84; P<0.0001).
