Triton WR-1339 renders guinea pig lipoproteins resistant to clearance and elevates lipoprotein lipase levels.
Why the study?
The mechanism by which Triton WR-1339 induces hyperlipemia and alters plasma lipoproteins and lipoprotein lipase activity in guinea pigs was unclear.
Triton WR-1339 induces hyperlipemia by making lipoproteins resistant to lipoprotein lipase, despite increasing the levels of the enzyme.

Guinea pig model cautions against equating LPL levels with clearance activity in hyperlipidemia; leaves open human translation.
Janicki et al. (1962) studied this question. Triton WR-1339 vs. control animals was evaluated on Plasma lipoprotein lipase levels and lipoprotein clearance. Administration of Triton WR-1339 to guinea pigs altered plasma lipoproteins, rendering them resistant to clearance by lipoprotein lipase, and resulted in significantly higher levels of the enzyme.
