Combined exercise ECG and Tl-201 scintigraphy detects coronary stenosis in LVH with 87% specificity.
Why the study?
In patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, exercise ECG and 201Tl myocardial scintigraphy often show false positives, making detection of coronary artery stenosis difficult.
Does combining exercise 201Tl myocardial scintigraphy with exercise ECG improve the diagnostic accuracy for coronary artery stenosis in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy?
Cross-Sectional (n=25)
No
Does combining exercise 201Tl myocardial scintigraphy with exercise ECG improve the diagnostic accuracy for coronary artery stenosis in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy?
Combining exercise myocardial scintigraphy with exercise ECG improves the specificity and predictive value for diagnosing coronary artery stenosis in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Isoda et al. (1994) conducted a cross-sectional in Left ventricular hypertrophy with strain pattern or ST-T changes (n=25). Exercise stress ECG and Tl-201 myocardial scintigraphy vs. Coronary angiography was evaluated on Diagnostic accuracy for coronary artery stenosis. In patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, combining an exercise ECG criterion of 1 mm ST depression at the J point with modified Tl-201 myocardial scintigraphy criteria yielded a sensitivity of 70% and specificity of 87% for detecting coronary artery stenosis.
