Key result
Intracellular inositol tetrakisphosphate blocks ~80% of stimulated Cl- current in CFPAC-1 cells.
Why the study?
The role of Ins(3,4,5,6)P4 in regulating Cl- current in epithelial CFPAC-1 cells was not fully understood.
Population

Should not yet alter clinical practice; leaves open therapeutic targeting of Ins(3,4,5,6)P4 in human epithelial disorders.
Ins(3,4,5,6)P4 acts as an important intracellular inhibitor of receptor-mediated Ca2+-dependent Cl- current in epithelial cells.
Ho et al. (1997) studied this question. Ins(3,4,5,6)P4 was evaluated on Cl- current stimulated by extracellular ATP or thapsigargin. Intracellular Ins(3,4,5,6)P4 produced a five- to sevenfold reduction in the Cl- current stimulated by extracellular ATP or thapsigargin in CFPAC-1 cells, with 4 microM blocking >80% of the current.
