Does linezolid administration cause lactic acidosis in children?
Linezolid administration can be associated with lactic acidosis in children, highlighting the need for vigilance among pediatric caregivers.
Supports vigilance for lactic acidosis with pediatric linezolid use; leaves open causality and incidence.
Linezolid administration has been associated with lactic acidosis in adults; however, the same phenomenon has not been reported in children. Mitochondrial protein synthesis inhibition is a demonstrated mechanism for toxicity, which therefore may manifest as lactic acidosis. Three cases of linezolid-associated lactic acidosis in children are reported to reinforce the need for pediatric caregivers to be vigilant of this potential side effect.

Su et al. (2011) conducted a case report in Lactic acidosis (n=3). Linezolid was evaluated on Lactic acidosis. Linezolid administration in children can be associated with lactic acidosis, as demonstrated by three reported pediatric cases.
