PW1-expressing cells emerge as novel resident cardiac stem cells in ischemic infarct and border zones.
Why the study?
PW1-expressing adult stem cells are detected in the heart but have not been well characterized.
Experimental study demonstrates the fibrogenic differentiation of PW1/Peg3-positive cardiac stem cells, highlighting their cellular contribution to myocardial fibrosis.

Yaniz‐Galende et al. (2017) studied Myocardial infarction. PW1-expressing cardiac stem cells was evaluated on Characterization and location of PW1-expressing cells. PW1-expressing cells were identified as a novel population of resident adult cardiac stem cells, primarily located in the infarct and border zones of human and mouse ischemic hearts.
