18F-FDG PET/CT successfully detects rare isolated peritoneal metastasis in a patient with fibular osteosarcoma.
Why the study?
Peritoneal deposits in osteosarcoma are not commonly reported, and 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging has revealed unusual metastatic sites.
Case Report (n=1)
18F-FDG PET/CT can detect unusual sites of metastatic spread, such as isolated peritoneal metastasis, in patients with osteosarcoma.
May support 18F-FDG PET/CT for atypical osteosarcoma metastases; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.
Primary osteosarcomas predominantly originate in the metaphyseal region of long bones. The introduction of 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging has revealed unusual and often rare sites of metastatic spread. Peritoneal deposits in osteosarcoma are not a commonly reported finding in the literature. The present case highlights the 18 F-FDG PET/CT findings in a case of osteosarcoma of the left fibula with isolated peritoneal metastasis with no regional or distant metastases.

Subedi et al. (2024) conducted a case report in Osteosarcoma with peritoneal metastasis (n=1). 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging was evaluated on Detection of metastatic spread. 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging successfully detected an unusual and rare isolated peritoneal metastasis in a patient with osteosarcoma of the left fibula.
