A method that involves the grafting of long-chain molecules onto hydroxylated ceramic surfaces like silica is proposed to improve the lubrication of microactuators. Preliminary experiments prove that one monolayer of C22 molecules leads to an efficient improvement of silica sliding properties, the friction coefficient decreasing from 0.5 to 0.1.
