Cardiac symptoms in thyroid SCC merit evaluation for metastasis; this case leaves open broader incidence and management questions.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report provides the first evidence of cardiac metastasis from primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland, demonstrating that associated severe DIC can be temporarily controlled by chemoradiotherapy.
Yoshihiro et al. (2016) conducted a case report in Cardiac metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland with severe disseminated intravascular coagulation (n=1). Chemoradiotherapy (paclitaxel and concurrent irradiation) was evaluated on Clinical response of DIC and cardiac metastasis. Severe disseminated intravascular coagulation caused by extremely rare cardiac metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland was effectively controlled by chemoradiotherapy, though the patient ultimately succumbed to respiratory failure.
