Five recombinant human RNase P subunits bind H1 RNA in vitro.
Why the study?
The RNA binding properties of conserved protein subunits of human nuclear RNase P and their interactions with H1 RNA were not fully characterized.
The study maps the specific RNA binding regions of human RNase P protein subunits, providing insights into the assembly of the active enzyme complex.

In vitro RNase P subunit mapping should not guide clinical decisions; leaves open validation in human cellular or disease models.
Reiner et al. (2011) studied this question. Recombinant protein subunits of human RNase P was evaluated on RNA binding to H1 RNA in vitro. Five recombinant protein subunits of human RNase P (Rpp20, Rpp21, Rpp25, Rpp29, and Pop5) bind to H1 RNA in vitro, with Rpp20 and Rpp25 recognizing overlapping regions in the P2 and P3 domains.
