Key result
CCNB3 immunohistochemistry identifies BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma in ~20% of pediatric undifferentiated Ewing-like sarcomas.
Why the study?
BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma is a recently recognized tumor that morphologically and clinically simulates Ewing sarcoma, requiring differentiation for treatment evaluation.
Does immunohistochemistry for CCNB3 identify BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma among pediatric cases of undifferentiated sarcoma?
Population
15 pediatric cases of undifferentiated sarcoma morphologically similar to Ewing sarcoma
Comparison
CCNB3 immunohistochemistry positive vs negative tumors

Does immunohistochemistry for CCNB3 identify BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma among pediatric cases of undifferentiated sarcoma?
CCNB3 immunostaining is useful for differentiating BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma from other Ewing-like sarcomas in pediatric patients.
Shibayama et al. (2015) conducted a case report in Undifferentiated sarcoma morphologically similar to Ewing sarcoma (n=15). CCNB3 immunohistochemistry was evaluated on CCNB3 immunohistochemistry positivity. CCNB3 immunohistochemistry successfully identified BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma in 3 of 15 (20%) pediatric cases of undifferentiated Ewing-like sarcoma, proving useful for differential diagnosis.
