Public transport (PT) is an efficient and eco-friendly travel mode but is underutilised for leisure activities. Enhancing PT information usability in smartphone apps can encourage its use. Existing PT apps primarily focus on PT timetable information in urban environments, with limited support for outdoor leisure activities. This paper explores improving PT stop visualisation to better serve users, exemplified by a hiker seeking transport home. Using a mixed-method approach, we analysed user needs, compared app visualisations, and conducted a qualitative study. Findings indicate that current apps lack dynamic visualisation for outdoor settings. Spatio-temporal proximity, terrain features and travel connection details were crucial for decision-making, and additional personalised information could further enhance user experience.
