Review outlines Bachmann bundle anatomy and historical atrial pacing sites without reporting clinical outcomes.
Why the study?
The Bachmann bundle is the major connection between the right and left atrium, but atrial pacing leads have traditionally targeted the right atrial appendage.
Wireless BB pacing achieved stable function over 6 months in this case; leaves open whether it reduces AF versus conventional RAA pacing.
Bachmann bundle (BB) is a group of fibers arising near the crista terminalis and the origin of the sinus node. It traverses the roof of the right atrium and crosses the interatrial septum anteriorly. Within the left atrium, it courses toward the left atrial (LA) appendage and posteriorly between the pulmonary veins. As such, it acts as the major connection between the right and left atrium. In the past, the right atrial (RA) appendage (RAA) was the target site for implantation of atrial pacing leads.

Bailin et al. (2025) studied this question. Wireless atrial pacemaker at Bachmann bundle was evaluated. The abstract provides only anatomical background on the Bachmann bundle and mentions historical atrial pacing sites, without reporting any study results.
