Dicumarol accelerates vascular loss of plasma proteins, an effect reversed by vitamin K1.
Why the study?
The effects of Dicumarol on vascular integrity and its relationship to hypoprothrombinemia and hemorrhagic diathesis were not fully understood.

Dicumarol increases vascular protein leakage after delay in rabbits; leaves open any clinical relevance or mechanisms in humans.
Thomas E. Nelson (1960) studied Vascular integrity. Dicumarol was evaluated on Disappearance of Evans Blue labeled plasma proteins. Dicumarol increased the rate of loss of plasma proteins from the blood stream in rabbits after a latent period of 90 to 180 minutes, an effect that was blocked by vitamin K1.
