Key result
Dahuang zhechong pill reverses doxorubicin resistance and inhibits resistant hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft growth in mice.
Why the study?
Dahuang zhechong pill (DHZCP) is commonly used clinically for liver cancer, but its ability to reverse doxorubicin resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma was not investigated.

Does Dahuang zhechong pill reverse doxorubicin resistance in a doxorubicin-resistant SMMC-7721 xenograft mouse model?
In a preclinical model, Dahuang zhechong pill reversed doxorubicin resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma xenografts by promoting apoptosis and reducing energy metabolism.
Wu et al. (2018) studied Doxorubicin-resistant hepatocellular carcinoma (SMMC-7721 xenografts). Dahuang zhechong pill (DHZCP) with or without doxorubicin was evaluated on Tumor volume and weight, apoptosis, and DOX resistance. Dahuang zhechong pill inhibited the growth of DOX-resistant hepatocellular carcinoma xenografts in mice and promoted increased apoptosis when combined with DOX, reversing DOX resistance.
