ACS is linked to marked reductions in Treg FOXP3 and PD-L1 expression versus stable CAD.
Why the study?
The relationship between PD-L1 expression on peripheral blood regulatory T cells and the severity of coronary heart disease was unclear.
Observational (n=70)
Reduced expression of PD-L1 on peripheral blood Tregs correlates with the severity of coronary heart disease and may serve as a biomarker for acute coronary syndrome.

Reduced PD-L1 on Tregs was associated with ACS severity; leaves open biomarker role pending prospective validation.
Li et al. (2015) conducted an observational in Coronary heart disease (n=70). Acute coronary syndrome vs. Chronic coronary artery disease and healthy volunteers was evaluated on Expression of FOXP3 and PD-L1 on Tregs and plasma cytokine production. Acute coronary syndrome was associated with a significant reduction in FOXP3 and PD-L1 expression on regulatory T cells compared to chronic coronary artery disease and healthy controls.
