Ruxolitinib cream is licensed for the treatment of non-segmental vitiligo with facial involvement in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends ruxolitinib as an option in England when topical first-line treatments have not worked or are unsuitable, and when it is supplied according to the agreed commercial arrangement. Vitiligo should not be viewed as a cosmetic concern alone; NICE recognises its physical, psychological and social effects, including distress, stigma, reduced quality of life and loss of social confidence. This article summarises what prescribers need to know about patient selection, evidence of benefit, practical use, counselling, monitoring and safety.
