Why the study?
Percutaneous retrograde femoral cine-aortography has been utilized to evaluate patients prior to cardiac surgery, especially for aortic valve disease, but detailed anatomic evaluation data were needed.
Observational (n=211)
No
Percutaneous retrograde femoral cine-aortography was demonstrated to be a safe imaging modality for evaluating patients prior to cardiac surgery in this early 1960s series.

Cine-aortography, done in conjunction with the determination of pressure gradients across the aortic valve, allows one to make an anatomic evaluation of the aortic root and aortic valve and also provides an evaluation of the status of the coronary arteries. From November 1, 1961, to December 31, 1963, 211 patients have undergone retrograde cine-aortography without mortality or serious morbidity. Among these was Patient D. K., a...References1. STEINBERGGELLER IW: Aneurysmal dilatation of aortic sinuses in arachnodactyly. Diagnosis during life in three cases. Ann. Intern. Med. 43: 120, 1955.
