Volatile compounds from the aerial parts of Ocimum gratissimum L. were isolated by hydrodistillation, hexane extraction and supercritical CO2 extraction. Using GC/MS as the method of analysis, their compositions were compared. Analysis revealed that both extracts contained few compounds and differed quantitatively from the oil. The concentrations of thymol and carvacrol were higher in the extracts.
