Immunoglobulin determinations in more than 200 cord serum specimens studied revealed a linear relationship between log IgG and gestational age, with a wide range of normal values. Only two of 44 undergrown neonates had IgG levels below the tenth percentile. Of 77 sera having undetectable IgM levels using standard plates, retesting with Low-Level plates revealed values in 64 instances, five of which were 15 mg. per 100 ml. or more. IgD was detected in only seven of 84 cases, varying from 2.1 to 6.2 mg. per 100 ml. IgG, IgA, and IgM levels among multiple-birth newborns correspond to those of single infants of similar gestational age.
