Conclusion. To describe clinical features and management of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the cardiology department of Ségou Hospital. Patients and Methods. This was a cross-sectional study that was conducted at Ségou Hospital between March 2019 and March 2020 on 51 patients with documented AF. Sociodemographic, clinical, biological, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic data were collected using individual patient files. Drug and non-drug treatments as well as complications (thromboembolism, bleeding, death), were recorded. Results. Out of 347 patients, 51 (14.69%) had AF, mainly women between 61 and 76 years old. Arterial hypertension and smoking were the main cardiovascular risk factors. Heart failure was the main reason for hospitalization, usually with tachycardia and cardiomegaly. Permanent AF was most common, often caused by ischemic heart disease. CHA2DS2VASc score ≥ 2 was frequent, justifying the use of vitamin K antagonists (76.5%). The mortality rate was 15.7%. Deaths were mainly due to thromboembolic and haemorrhagic complications. Conclusion. Atrial fibrillation is common in the cardiology department and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, highlighting the importance of early and appropriate management.
