Key result
Thrombolysis resolves massive type C right atrial thrombus, while vacuum aspiration fails for type A.
Why the study?
There are no guidelines providing an algorithmic approach for the management of right atrial thrombi due to a lack of strong supporting studies.
Population
2 high-risk patients with massive right atrial thrombi
Comparison
Different management approaches for right atrial thrombi
Design
Case report

May support type-specific therapy in right atrial thrombi; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation before practice change.
Case Report (n=2)
A 2021 study conducted a case report in Right atrial thrombi (n=2). Thrombolytic therapy (tPA) and mechanical aspiration thrombectomy was evaluated on Clinical outcome (survival and thrombus resolution). In two high-risk patients with massive right atrial thrombi, thrombolytic therapy successfully resolved a type C thrombus, whereas mechanical vacuum aspiration was unsuccessful for a type A thrombus.
