Early ECMO with biopsy-guided immunosuppression successfully bridges fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis to recovery.
Why the study?
Fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis as the first presentation of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis is rare and requires prompt multidisciplinary management including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
Case Report (n=1)
No
May support early ECMO and biopsy-guided immunosuppression in fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis; leaves open need for prospective validation.
We describe a case of fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis as the first presentation of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, promptly managed with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. This case highlights the multidisciplinary work involving all health care professionals in the acute management of these patients and discusses it from an educational point of view. Lopes et al. (2020) conducted a case report in Fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis (n=1). Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and immunosuppression was evaluated on Clinical recovery. Early implementation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and endomyocardial biopsy-guided immunosuppression successfully bridged a 22-year-old man with fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis to recovery.
